Taxing v. Killing Peasants

The notion of taxing carbon (or better still negative externalities) seems to be gaining traction among the thoughtful. Can't say I agree with all of the conclusions here, but here are some data points, FYI.

I am not yet convinced that global warming isn't a good thing. Sea levels may be higher by food production is too.

Be that as it may, if someone is an aggregious polluter, I am in favor of those effected having the right to sue for the imposition of new technology. While point source pollution is still a problem, carbon seems a luxury problem.

They key is the availability of alternatives. Its not just saying that carbon emmissions or pollution are bad, it is having a way to fix them that is important. Once that is identified, there are plenty of ways to affect a solution, from suits to mandates to going in and cleaning up, with or without permission and billing the polluter for the cost.
