Irrationals Legislating Behavior

Dear Editors,

I can hardly recall a greater piece of nonsense than Carl Milsted Jr.'s http://www.freeliberal.com/archives/003011.html . He gives himself airs of great balance, as if he's a wise man who can see all sides of an issue. This abruptly falls apart when we reach, "The simplistic libertarian view is easily invalidated by observing humans. People do not always act rationally."

Yes, "people" do not always act rationally. So what? Therefore "people" should put their lives and their intimate personal decisions in the hands of government thugs? Maybe Mr. Milsted hasn't caught on to this, but those legislators and bureaucrats are also "people", who not only fail to act rationally, but even worse, act rationally from the standpoint of building and enhancing their own power pyramids, to the detriment of the rest of society.

Mr. Milsted is clearly at heart a Statist who believes that every human problem requires the forced intrusion of Authority. Those of us who value liberty will always understand that do-gooders like Mr. Milsted are the enemy, whatever puffery they try to surround themselves with. It is more refreshing to read the screeds of unabashed authoritarians; at least they're honest about where they stand.

Sincerely,
John A. deLaubenfels
