Supreme Court, State Secrets and Justice

On Monday, November 28th 2005, The U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether or not to review a lower court's dismissal of the case of Sibel Edmonds. Mrs. Edmonds is a former FBI translator who was fired in 2002 in retaliation for reporting security breaches and possible espionage within the FBI. The lower courts dismissed the case, where she was challenging her retaliatory dismissal, when former Attorney General John Ashcroft invoked the rarely used "state secrets" privilege.

An IG report made public in 2005 substantiates Mrs. Edmonds allegations which include possible illicit activities involving Turkish nationals and high-level members of Congress. If the Supreme Court is about true justice and not state power, than they will take her case. Not only that, those who are complicit in her retaliatory firing should face criminal penalties along with those who covered it up. She is a true patriot and those like her need to be celebrated not harassed, and silenced.

It is a sad commentary on our state of affairs were those who lie, cheat and abuse their power are protected, given raises and promotions while those who are honest, honorable and patriots get abused by the system.
