November 21, 2005Day Pass from the AsylumThis piece on the Wall Street Journal’s Opinion Journal site is such a tiny item in the grand scheme of things, and yet it lends credence to the notion that hope springs eternal. Like the alcoholic who must first admit that his or her drinking’s a problem, Congress has pulled funding for the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere” to a remote island in Alaska. This all reminds me of the film “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” a classic with Jack Nicholson. The inmates/patients of an insane asylum all get out of the sanitarium for a day, and are able to function in society, even posing as brilliant intellectuals. With this act of sanity, Congress too has had its day (or, perhaps, moment) of lucidity, amongst the crazy goings on in the Dome. This baby step, however, should be encouraged. I feel a group hug coming. -Robert Capozzi Return to the Free Liberal Homepage |
