Sage Words

"You know, everybody makes mistakes when they are president," [Bill] Clinton said. "I mean, you can't make as many calls as you have to make without messing up once in awhile. The thing we ought to be focused on is what is the right thing to do now. That's what I think."

The preceding is some of the best political discourse I've heard in years. Clinton, interviewed on Larry King, strikes just the right balance, according to news reports.

Contrast this with what we're hearing from Dems and others. Bush is a lier. The war is being fought under false pretenses. Etc. Etc.

What this line of rhetoric is doing is polarizing, and making Compound W defensive. Poor strategy for those of us who actually want the US to exit Iraq as quickly as possible. If the purpose is simply to embarrass and damage Bush, the shrill rhetoric seems effective. But, the question is, at what price?
