(Some) Praise for PC

Language changes. If you don't believe me, read Shakespeare. While the Bard can be quite lilting, insightful, comic and tragic, his language was barely what we'd called "contemporary English."

So I laugh a bit when I read and hear people railing against PC, at least the changes to the language that some suggest is more appropriate. Thankfully, all my appendages work reasonably well, but if one or more didn't, I'd prefer to be called "handicapped" or "physically challenged" to the old "lame" or "crippled." Even though I'm male, I wince a bit when I see a male pronoun being used in a unisex fashion. I mean, is it that difficult to write "he or she"?

Of course, PC language can get a bit silly and sanctimonious. But it's generally not Orwellian in my book.
