Thanks to Travis Cross for his Letter to The Free Liberal. It seems as if we agree that speed limits might be a legitimate exercise of government power, based on the notion that speeding represents a reckless endangerment.
I believe that a speeding ticket is considered a "violation," not a "crime," -- a small point, but there it is.
Now, of course, if a person refuses to obey Disney's rule for queuing up, Disney security could forcibly -- if necessary -- remove a patron from their amusement park. Similarly, if a speeder speeds away from the police as they pull a person over for speeding, things could get a bit hairy...just ask Rodney King!
Like Cross, I'm not a big fan of "landscaping" regulations.
Still, when the government is spending $2.6 trillion, with most of it going to special interests or to military spending, I'm not sure how testing the bounds of "coercive" speed limits advances the public dialog. Seems like there are bigger fish to fry.
