Guidelines for Editorial Submissions to the Free Liberal

Version 1.0

Before you submit an article, please read our website to get an idea of the kind of articles we run.

What we are looking for:
We are looking for articles that deal with the philosophical approaches to liberty and community, pragmatic solutions that address contemporary social problems, ideas that contribute to a holistic/integral worldview, analysis of political figures and politics, articles on culture and media, and humorous items of all sorts. We run articles that are both very scholarly and articles that are written in lay terms. We are interested in straight reporting, analysis, and editorials. Cartoonists/artists are especially encouraged to submit their work.

What we are not looking for:
We do not accept articles that are hateful, malicious, or contain ad hominem attacks. We also do not accept articles that contain an overtly partisan message or engage in lobbying for or against any legislative bill, nor advocating for the election or defeat of candidates for public office.

Grammar and Spelling
Articles should be proofread and run through a spellchecker before being submitted. We do not want to re-edit a submission.

Editing
We may edit for length or make small grammatical changes. We do not change the content/tone of an article. If we don’t like what you said, or if the article needs extensive editing, it will be rejected. We do not provide our edited versions for your approval before publication.

Compensation
We do not currently compensate our writers and editors. The Free Liberal is run almost entirely as a volunteer operation. We plan on developing a Writers’ Fund in the future. For exceptional content, we will consider paying a fee. Please state whether you require compensation in your introductory email to us.

Exclusivity
We like to have exclusive rights to run articles, but we do accept articles that have run previously, or concurrently on other websites and in other publications. Please note that we cannot run articles for which the copyright, or right of exclusivity have been granted to another publication. If you were not compensated, you are likely still the holder of the copyright and may choose to whom to share the reprint rights with. However, please consider contacting any publishers/editors you have shared your articles with about reprinting your article in the Free Liberal.

Print Edition vs. Internet Edition
Upon submission, your article may be run in either or both of the print edition or the Internet edition. It has a relatively high probability of getting into the Internet edition and a relatively low probability of getting into the print edition.

Please direct your submissions or questions via e-mail to the editor.
