I attempted to go in the Old Post Office Building
today (7/31/2004), and was prevented from entering
while in possession of my knife. There are metal
detectors at the entrance. I pulled out my knife
and dropped it in the tray.
The guard said, "You can't come in here with that. You need
to go hide it somewhere and then you can enter."
I can't tell whether the old post office is
haunted by government or not. According to this...

it was government property years ago.
12 Years ago, I worked at Covington & Burling and
I would make rounds to the Supreme Court. I routinely
carried a knife in there. I would just drop it in the
tray the guard would look at it and on I went.
In January, I approached the guard outside The
National Gallary of Art and asked if they would let me
in with a knife. He asked to see it. I showed it to him and
he said I could enter, since it's not an Orange alert.
