May 17, 2004University of Georgia Libertarians Endorse NolanGary Nolan's bid for the Libertarian nomination received another boost today as the campaign announced an endorsement from the University of Georgia College Libertarians(LPUGA). The endorsement is significant because of the proximity of the campus in Athens, GA to the site of the Libertarian National Convention in Atlanta next week. The 200-person campus group could have a large impact on the nominating convention which will be decided by the majority of the ~1000 expected delegates. "The Libertarians of the University of Georgia have decided by majority vote to endorse Gary Nolan as the Libertarian Presidential candidate due to his strong dedication to Constitutional values, his strong sense of dignity, his down-to-earth reasonable attitude, and his practical nature," said the endorsement. "We believe he is a candidate that helps legitimize our party with those who have previously labeled Libertarians as 'conspiracy theorists' or 'anarchists.' In attracting voters who were formerly skeptical of voting for a third party, he will surely strengthen the Libertarian foothold nationwide."
"Almost every voter chose Gary Nolan," said Hretz. "No one voted for Aaron Russo, and I had a handful of votes for Badnarik." About 30% of the group's 200+ members participated in the endorsement vote, which was conducted via email over a 1 month period. According to Hretz, the members of the group intend to be actively involved in the post-convention campaign.
